New Woskerski Mural Enhances Carlisle’s Lowther Arcade

Carlisle city centre has a vibrant new addition thanks to international street artist Woskerski. Between May 1st and 11th, Woskerski completed a stunning mural in Lowther Arcade, depicting the graceful flight of geese against a backdrop of a sunset sky.

The creation of the artwork required a sympathetic approach to the Victorian arcade, ensuring the piece harmonized with the existing space and its businesses. The project presented significant challenges, including operating at height amidst hanging chains, pigeons, fairy lights, and the arcade’s metal roof structure and facades – a task that was no mean feat!

The artwork has been enthusiastically received by local shop owners, who are thrilled to see a new dimension brought to the arcade space. Woskerski himself commented on the project, stating: “This project was a fantastic opportunity to visually articulate the deep connection between Carlisle and the nature that surrounds it, particularly the wildlife they often see, and to contribute to the city’s growing and celebrated street art scene.”

Commissioned as part of the wider regeneration efforts in Carlisle, this piece is a key element of the North Place Programme. Caroline Patterson, Programme Manager, explained: “The main aim of the Carlisle Southern Gateway project is to add to the city and this part sees us help create a fantastic piece of public art for Carlisle City Centre.”
